Twin Weber upgrade

In my quest for reliability, I have decided to upgrade my Empi progressive carb to a Twin Weber ICT 34 system. I know this is not the most powerful out there, but, I am not going to be racing the Bus around the countryside! Reliability is what I was after here. Now, after a significant amount of research I discovered that the Progressive Carb is not going to cope with the 2 ltr CJ Engine. I am not sure why one of the PO’s swapped out the original for this, however, I am told they have consistent reliability issues. The main issue that I experience at the moment is the terrible start up of the engine. Once warm it seems to idle fine, but getting there is extremely tedious. I am also going to assume that the current carb has never been on a rolling rode and tuned at progressive speeds. I know this can be expensive, but surely it has got to be worth doing and getting right? As always I do not confess to be an expert and happy to hear everyones POV on the subject and as always happy to be proved wrong! Now, I have never installed a carb before so am extremely interested in the process and obviously the result. I have decided to record a ‘warts and all’ video on my progress here. I have ordered the Carbs today and they should arrive tomorrow – enjoy smiles and tears over the coming weeks!

So, it’s now Nov 25 2020, and the Carbs have arrived. As promised, I will record the process that I am going to undertake in getting these up and running, but, for now I am going to get my head stuck into a Carb Manual I bought from VW Heritage so I have at least a little ‘know how’ before I screw these things up! The kit that I received from CB Performance via VW Heritage looks solid, comprehensive and well made. The only exception that I would shout about is the quality of the installation guide, although the instructions seem comprehensive enough (time will tell) the illustrations are shocking, both blurred, faded and in black and white. With that in mind I have decided that the first video will be a quick overview of the parts in the kit and how they all fit together. So folks, here we go, the adventure begins..
